Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Co-op located?
DFC is located at 195 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester, 02122, on the corner of Bowdoin and Topliff Streets, accessible by public transportation (bus routes 15 & 17; and a twelve minute walk from the rapid transit Fairmount Line.) The store has a parking lot to the left of the front door, which also is a rental site location for Uhaul moving vans and trucks. On-street parking is often available.
When did The Co-op open?
The Grand Opening was October 14, 2023! VietAID was awarded affordable housing tax credits from the Commonwealth of MA in February 2020, and started construction on the building in January, 2021. The Co-op began fitting out the interior of the store in the fall of 2022, and a year later the store opened.
Why should I become a member-owner if I don’t need to be a member-owner to shop there?
Because The Co-op needs YOU! Your membership matters. Yes, everyone is welcome to shop, even without a membership. But, there is strength in numbers and our 2000+ membership needs you to continue growing. Your membership demonstrates your commitment to this community-led food justice movement. And your $100 (one-time) membership equity will help finance The Co-op while it supplements store sales during the first 5+ years of working towards profitability, with a combination of donations, grants and loans from banks and co-op loan funds. A growing membership shows community commitment and therefore makes it easier to obtain grants and loans when needed.
